The Scandal of Old-age Pensions*

Any
increase in the amount of monthly pension given by the
centre to the elderly under the National Social Assistance
Programme has been ruled out in the parliament. This
paltry sum offered to aged citizens is not even inflation
adjusted and has not changed in years. Moreover, many
people who should be receiving it do not even do so.
